UNITED NATIONS URGED TO BAN MERCURY IN VACCINATIONS

SILVER SPRING, Md., U.S.A., April 6, 2011, PRNewswire.

The Coalition for Mercury-Free Drugs (CoMeD), a Maryland-based non-profit organization, urged the UN secretariat to ban the use of mercury in pharmaceuticals, especially vaccines, in preparation for the UN’s Environmental Programme’s 3rd inter-governmental negotiating committee on mercury scheduled for this Fall.

CoMeD has publicized new studies which indicate that mercury in vaccines and dental amalgams is associated with neurological diseases such as autism in children and Alzheimer’s disease in adults.

The University of Brazil suggests that the use of Thimerosal, a vaccine preservative, be reconsidered. Studies confirm the toxicity of the dose of mercury in Thimerosal-preserved vaccines. Thimerosal is recognized to cause cancer, genetic mutations and birth defects. In 1999 the U.S. Public Health Service and American Academy of Pediatrics jointly called for its removal “as soon as possible”.

Although Thimerosal has been removed from most vaccines in the United States, pharmaceutical companies and the World Health Organization are continuing to send mercury-laced vaccines to developing countries.
